The Core Laboratory at the DCRI was founded in 1983 by Dr. Mitchell Krucoff. It began as an ischemia monitoring lab, but soon morphed into an electronic electrocardiography (eECG) and echocardiography core laboratory that provided ECG and echocardiography services for cardiac-safety clinical trials research. Backed by the thought leadership, experience and enthusiasm of board-certified Duke University faculty physicians, the core lab at the DCRI has become an industry leader in ECG and echocardiography core laboratory assessments. At that time, the services provided by our core lab included
- ischemia monitoring
- Holter monitoring
- cardiac safety monitoring (with continuous or static 12-lead ECG assessments)
- thorough QT
- echocardiography
In 2007, Dr. Pamela Douglas expanded the imaging services to include multi-modality measures of cardiac safety and efficacy. In addition to echocardiography, our imaging services now include
- cardiac nuclear imaging
- cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- cardiac computed tomography (CT) imaging
- quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) imaging
- atherosclerotic imaging-carotid intima-media thickness (IMT)
Our clinical trial support services have also expanded. In conjunction with DCRI, we now offer a complete clinical trials package that allows us to support a clinical research study from the moment of idea initiation through study completion. Our support services include
- protocol development and design
- thought leadership
- quality assurance
- logistic and technical support
- data interpretation and analysis
- global study management
- regulatory strategy and consultation
- statistical support
- data management
- image storage and management
- report generation and results communication
In the future, we will continue to find new ways to tailor our existing services and develop new ones to support the developing and expanding needs of the clinical trials industry.
