DCRI Faculty Members Recognized as ‘Pioneers’

The annual list, which examined papers published over the last decade, honors researchers who were in the top 1 percent of citations in their fields.

This year’s “Highly Cited Researchers” recognizes seven faculty members from the DCRI, as well as two former DCRI researchers, as “true pioneers in their fields over the last decade.”

The list, which is released annually by the Institute for Scientific Information Web of Science, calculates how many times authors’ work appeared in the citations of other papers. This year’s list examines papers published between 2009 and 2019 within 21 broad research fields and recognizes those who appeared in the top 1 percent of citations. This year’s list recognized over 6,000 researchers.

The nine DCRI-affiliated honorees are part of 37 Duke researchers who were recognized. DCRI’s most highly cited faculty, and the fields in which they were highly cited, include:

  • Lesley Curtis, PhD – Clinical Medicine
  • Pamela Douglas, MD – Clinical Medicine
  • Christopher Granger, MD – Clinical Medicine
  • Adrian Hernandez, MD, MHS – Clinical Medicine
  • Magnus Ohman, MBBS – Clinical Medicine
  • Manesh Patel, MD – Clinical Medicine
  • Michael Pencina, PhD – Social Sciences and Clinical Medicine

Both Robert Califf, MD, DCRI’s founding executive director, and Eric Peterson, MD, MPH, a former DCRI executive director, were also recognized in the Clinical Medicine category.

Recent statistics compiled by the DCRI show that since 1996, DCRI’s work has been cited in over 760,000 scientific articles.

“I am proud to learn that the science we conduct here at the DCRI is being widely shared and cited,” said DCRI Executive Director Adrian Hernandez, MD, MHS. “These recognitions are indicative of DCRI’s commitment to delivering on its mission to share knowledge and to lead the way forward for clinical research.”
