Jamie Young has served as Director of Sponsored Projects Administration at the DCRI since 2014, bringing more than 25 years of research administration experience to the role. He leads a high-performing team that supports a complex portfolio of federal and foundation-funded research. Young’s expertise spans the full research administration lifecycle, including pre- and post-award management, compliance oversight, financial stewardship, and operational strategy. He is known for aligning administrative infrastructure with institutional goals while helping faculty and project teams navigate complex sponsor and regulatory requirements.

Throughout his career, Young has built a strong reputation for improving processes, strengthening controls, and fostering collaborative partnerships across research, finance, and compliance functions. Prior to joining Duke, Young spent nearly 17 years as a Grants Officer and held leadership roles at Northwestern University, where he directed proposal, award, and contract operations across multiple schools and research units. Young brings deep knowledge of sponsored research policy, federal regulations, and clinical trial administration, along with a commitment to staff development, service excellence, and continuous improvement. 

Young holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Illinois Chicago.
