Granger Receives James B. Herrick Award

Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) faculty member Christopher Granger, MD, was named the James B. Herrick Award for Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Cardiology Lecturer at the 2025 American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions,. The award is presented by the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology to honor a physician whose scientific achievements have made a profound contribution to clinical cardiology. 

Christopher Granger

Granger, a member of the DCRI since 1998, is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the AHA, and of the European Society of Cardiology. His research primarily focuses on the conduct and methodology of large randomized clinical trials in heart disease.

Granger has co-authored more than 800 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has been named to Clarivate’s Most Cited Researchers list on multiple occasions, including in 2025. He has coordinated the DCRI’s activities in many clinical trials evaluating treatments of acute MI, heart failure, antithrombotic strategies in acute coronary syndromes, and stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation.

Douglas Selected as Distinguished Faculty

Pamela Douglas

DCRI faculty member Pamela Douglas, MD, received a 2025 Distinguished Faculty Award from the Duke Medical Alumni Association “in recognition of her pioneering contributions to the field of cardiology,” on Nov. 6.

Douglas has authored more than 700 peer-reviewed articles and over 100 editorials. Additionally, she is the current Ursula Geller Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Diseases in Duke's Department of Medicine. Douglas has been a key driver in promoting greater wellness and inclusion in the clinical research and cardiovascular fields.

DCRI Faculty Make Highly Cited Researchers List

Four DCRI faculty members were among the top 1% of citations in their fields in 2025, according to analytics company Clarivate. The organization’s prestigious Highly Cited Researchers list, based on citation data, is further refined using other quantitative metrics, qualitative analysis, and expert judgment. The list is one of the most recognized, data-driven indicators of scientific impact worldwide.

All of the DCRI faculty named to this year’s list have also been among the top 1% cited in their fields in previous years, indicating that their research consistently remains among the most trusted, influential, and widely used contributions in their field.
