Following a national search, the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) named new leadership for its Data Science and Biostatistics team.

Robert M. Califf, MD, Duke University adjunct professor of medicine (cardiology) and former director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), has been confirmed as commissioner for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration following a vote by the Senate today. Califf’s appointment to the position will mark his second time heading the agency, which he also led during the final year of former President Barack Obama’s administration.

Perakslis will provide strategic vision and oversight of DCRI’s digital research initiatives and technology affairs to advance the academic institute’s clinical research portfolio.

The annual list, which examined papers published over the last decade, honors researchers who were in the top 1 percent of citations in their fields.

A cardiologist and internationally recognized clinical research expert will become the Institute’s new leader.
